Recording the game show

We went in to studio to record the game show, as a group we decided to rehearse the second and last round, because we only managed to rehearse the first round and didn't find time to rehearse other rounds. This is because the first round was long and it took our most of our time only rehearsing that round. After rehearsing second and last round the crew and the cast had general idea of  how it was going to be and everyone warmed up for the main recording.

We started to record it from first round, because we planned it as starting from the top.We also decided  that after each round finished we were going to take little break, because to talk about the next round, so that to make sure everyone know what are they doing. Additionally, we decided to film two times, so that when it comes to edit on Final Cut Pro, we can choose the best ones, so that the show can look better.

When we started from recording  first round, as a director I find it bit difficult to do my role, because the cast was speaking fast and I had to be ready and I had to be quick on changing camera shots. After first take, we did the second take and the cast was speaking slower and have little pauses, so that I have time to change camera shots. However, there were not enough time to change camera angles, because the camera operators was slow at changing camera angles and the crew didn't really knew who was going to speak. The crew didn't know who was going to speak for every bit, because we didn't have time to plan to script who was going to talk, when people gave their answers.

After the first round was done, we stop recording and with cast I went through the second round, because to make sure everyone knows what they doing and they understanding the round. After doing that, we started to record the second round. the constants answers were funny, but they reminding the rules to each other, which it didn't look good, so we stop recording and I had to speak to them, so that when we record for the second time, everything can go smoothly and the show can be funnier. We recorded second round for the second time and everything went smoothly and it was much better then last time without anyone reminding the rules.

when the second round was recorded, we then took little break. I remained the cast how the last round was going to happen. We started to film the last round, everything went smoothly, but we had to stop in half of the recording, because the host didn't end the show, by saying: "Thank you for watching show, goodbye" as it was scripte. and it was noted in the cue card. We filmed the second take, the host ended the show, which it ended much better and sounded more professional.

Props and design for the game

When we practice, as group we carefully thought about the props after, so that  the mise en scene of the game can be good and similar to other real game shows. Firstly, we put on film posters on the wall, because the wall is black and it looked dull on the TV as own. So we put posters up to wall, so that to make the background more lively and engaging for the audience. We also used black cloth for tables, because the tables as a own looked old. By putting the black cloth, it suited with black wall and the overall of the show looked much better, because it looked more professional. Furthermore, we used the prop of microphones, because there were seven people on the stage, there wasn't enough of clipper mic, we had to use one clipper mic for the host and normal two mics for the constants. This is because the show was planned as everyone answering the questions, so that to follow the codes and conventions of other games like in 8 Out of 10 Cats. In the 8 Out of 10 Cats all the constants always has something to say about the topic they were given and we wanted to follow that code and convention. Lastly, we made cue cards for the host, so that the host can know what to ask and know what topics to talk about like in other talk and game shows. In the most game shows, they always have cue cards, because to be organised and always know what to say, so that the show can be flawless.

Changes on the script and the shooting script

I made changes to the script and the shooting script. The first change I made on the script is to cut down half of the first round. Before there were eight questions, now there are four questions. The reason we decided to cut down the round in half, because it was too long and when it was too long, the quality of the answer weren't that great. When the first round was cut in half, I also made change to second round. At the second round there were one topic to talk about, now there are two topics to talk about. The reason there are two topics to talk about now, because before this round was really short and it didn't look good at show, which we wanted to show be good. As a group we also gave sub topics to the constants to talk about, so that they don't get stuck what to talk about. As a group we decided to cut down the last round, which it was the round were each member of the group needed to do an action and the other team of the member needed to say opposite of what they doing. We cut this round, because the game of the show was really long and this round bit confusing. It was confusing because the actions were easy to guess and the rule of this game was confusing.

Pre- production work

In the shooting script, I planned the camera shots as two, however the client said we can use an extra camera as a wide shot, so I agree to have that extra camera. This is because we can use it as a back up, so if any thing gone wrong with the other cameras, we can use that camera. Planning it as a two camera was bit hard, because as we practice the game, we know that so much things go at once. However, I planned it carefully, by the practice we had.

Pratice For Game Show

As a group we have went into the TV Studio to film the game show as a practice, so that to see how was the script and the shooting script. When we filmed it, I saw that the shooting script and the script needed to change. This is because one of the cameras wasn't working and we had to work with two cameras. It was difficult to film with two cameras, because we planned to use three cameras and there are two teams and a host, which each camera was planned to focus on each team and host.  The second reason is round 1 of the game was really long, then the second round was really short, which we needed to cut down half of the round 1 and make round 2 longer. The other reason is when the team members got a question, they took really long to answer a question, which we learnt that we need to come up with answers as well. The answers they came up with were not also funny and the show's genre is comedy, so we needed to come up with funny answers.  We also thought that the game was  really long, so we needed to cut out one of the game, to have better length and to make the show decent. Lastly, after the practice, ,we decided to change one of the cast, because we didn't him suitable the game and the game's genre was comedy and the talent didn't gave funny responds.

Proposal

Before deciding which idea the team was going to do, I have done idea and developed into proposal
This is the proposal:

The idea is a talk show, because it is the most convenient show to do in the small TV studio. There will be three presenters for the show, because give their own opinion on the topics they are going to talk about. By giving their own opinion, they get to do small debate on the topic, which the show can be serious or funny. The show mainly going to be more in relax tone, than serious tone, because it’s going  to have bit of humour in it. This is because to make the show entertaining and engaging for the audience. The presenters going to be two females and one male. This is because there are going to more girl topics like fashion, but it is going to show male presenter point of view about the topic like fashion. By having male presenter’s point of view, the show will become more interesting, because there might be different point of view than female presenters, which the audience can see different perspective that female and male presenters think about. There is also going to be one guest towards the end of the show, because to make the show more entertaining for the audience, by talking about different topic. The guest is going to be an actor or actress, who was in a film recently. All the presenters will be asking about the film and personal life. For example, one of the presenter will be asking “what’s the film is about?”; the other presenter will be asking, “what was like working with the director?”; and last presenter will be like, “what you’ re plans to do after this film?”. The show is going to be 5 minutes to 10 minutes long, because there is not going to be long conversation on talking the topics. The reason the topics going to be short, because to keep the show engaging.

In the talk show there are going to be couple of the topics that is going to be covered. Firstly, there is going to the most important latest news and the presenters will give their opinions on the news. For example it can be crime news, and by the presenters reporting it, they can also can give their own view, because to show different point of views. The reason there is news, because to inform people what is currently going on. Secondly, there will be topic on latest films, because to keep young audience interested and inform weather the film is good to watch. In the this topic they can give their opinion on what they think about the film and what they think about the actors or actresses, because to show their opinions from audience point of view. For example, they can review about The Hobbit movie and the cast. Lastly, they can talk about fashion that the famous people worn, because show if famous people are good role model for the teenagers. For example, they can talk about Rihanna’s fashion style and her fashion line.  

The talk show’s name is going to be “The View”, because the show is showing presenters’ point of view on the topic. In the talk show there are going to be clips and images, because to show what the presenters talking about. For example, if they talking about the fashion, then there will be an image of fashion clothes. In the show there are going to sound effects like applause, opening song and closing song, so that it can look like more professional.

There is going to be style in the show, there is going to props and certain colours. Firstly, the props there is going to be a sofa, so that it can have more relaxed atmosphere in the show and it is going to be informal show. This is because this show is aimed at teenagers, who go to college and university. There are going to be decoration in the show, so that it can look more appealing for young audience; the type of decoration that can included name of the show, and images of movie posters. The type of colours that is going to be used in the show are light colours like blue, red and green. This is because to make it appeal more for female teenagers. This is because we are going to cover topics like fashion, which it appeals to females.  The costume that the presenters and the talent will be wearing is casual, because the show is going to be in relaxing tone.

When the target audience students who are mainly female, it is also targeted at every ethnicity who lives in London. This is because, the topic like news, is going to cover London latest News. The target audience of this show is also who likes fashion, likes to follow latest news and like to watch movies. This is because there are going to be these topics and this audience will be entertained and informed about their interest.  

For this show there is going to be crew that from my group, to film the show professionally, so that the show can look good. The roles will be Camera Operator to record; floor manager to communicate to Director mainly, but also to crew and cast; Sound Mixer to put the sound effects Vision Mixer to put the clips and images on; Director to direct the crew; teleprompter to put control the script on the teleprompt; three presenters and one talent to get filmed for the show.

Development of Pre- Production

This week, as a team we were working on the pre- production, because to prepared to film and make it good.  I have been working on the shooting script, the script and the studio plan and other team members doing the other pre- product. At first of the week there was issue, because some of the team was arriving late to the lessons, which causes to slow the progress of the pre- production and there had to be meeting, so that to discuss more about the show, because I didn't know the detail information of how the game show was going to be. However, after we did the meeting and I had more clear thought how to do the script of the show and how to do the shooting script. we were having discussion on  how the game show is going to be and talking about the small details, so that there could not be no mistakes during the filming and to be organised. In the meeting we also had more thoughts about the game. We were discussing what sound effects to put, when the constraint gets a right or wrong. I have came up with the idea to put sound effects of a characters from a movie or TV show, of  saying its wrong or right. We decided to do this idea, because it will be funny, and the genre of the game is comedy, which it will suit with the genre. We were also discussing what type of words to put for the game, because it had to be words, that is funny discuss, so that to make the audience laugh and make it entertaining.

I have been put in a group, because to produce a show. I also did proposal of the idea, I came out with. Everyone had come up with an idea, and  than choose the best one, so that the show can be good and entertaining. My idea was  a talk show about fashion, latest news, and films that is aimed at teenagers. The idea got chosen comedy game show, I think this is the most convenient idea for good show, because the game is going to be fun and funny, which it will be entertaining watch. Before this idea was chosen, everyone explained their idea to each other, although to choose the good one. Everyone's idea was good, but only one of the group member came out with the game show and everyone thought it will be a good show for the TV project.

After the idea was chosen, everyone got a role. My role is director, because they thought I will be good at this role. My reasonable are to say what camera angles is to do to camera operators, to get good shots for the show and not to miss the important parts. For example, the director can ask camera one operator to get close up shot and camera one operator does close up shot. The director also directs the floor manger, to make the show work smoothly, without any problems or mistakes. For example, the director says to the floor manager starting and the director does the countdown, and at the same time floor manager does the countdown with the hand to the talent, presenter and the camera operator, so that everyone can be be ready. Lastly, the director directs sound controller, because to make the show sound professional, by using right sound effects and soundtracks. For example, the director can ask put the applause sound effect and the sound mixer puts applause.

When roles were decided, we also sorted to do what paperwork, we split it among between us. I am going to do the Shooting camera list; and I am going to to do Studio floor plans with one of my group member. Shooting camera list is where the person plans which camera and shot angle is going to be used at what part. For example, at the beginning of the script it might write, camera two doing a long shot angle,  and the director says to camera operator two to do long shot. There is a script, so that everyone can know what to do and be prepared for the show. Studio floor plans is deciding where the props and cameras going to be placed, because to make sure it is easy to film and it looks good. For example, it can be planned as the cameras going to be placed near each other.
